Sandustry Kinetic Press: Turning Fall Damage Into Profit

The Kinetic Press is the only machine that rewards you for dropping things from the sky. Land a piece of Burnt Residue on it from 25 or more blocks up and it shatters into Gold and a Seed. Land anything else, or drop it from too low, and you get a clog instead.

Kinetic Press quick facts

  • 1 Burnt Residue falling 25+ blocks = 1 Gold + 1 Seed
  • Gold and Seeds pass through and exit the bottom
  • Anything else lands on top and stays there until removed
  • Seals out liquids and gases, unlike the Shaker
  • Often written "Kinetic Slag Press" in other guides - same machine, same 25-block rule

Run a Press Line, Step by Step

Height is not decoration on this building; it is the recipe. Each step ends with a checkpoint so you can tell the press is working before you build the next stage around it.

Step 1

Burn Residue into Burnt Residue

Shakers spit out Residue as their waste. Burn it into Burnt Residue first — the Press does not accept the raw material. That turns your Shaker line into the Press's fuel supply.

Checkpoint: you have a steady stock of Burnt Residue coming off the burn.

Step 2

Build a drop shaft 25+ blocks tall

The 25-block rule is strict: shorter drops leave Burnt Residue sitting on the surface. Reserve the vertical shaft first and hang the rest of the line off it.

Checkpoint: the top of the drop clears 25 blocks above the Press face.

Step 3

Drop from the top and collect Gold + Seed

Release Burnt Residue from the top. It shatters into 1 Gold and 1 Seed that exit through the bottom — the Seed is the real prize, because it opens the entire flower-branch of farming.

Checkpoint: Gold and Seeds stream out below the Press.

Step 4

Sweep the landing zone with angled Launchers

A Press has no built-in way to shift what lands on it. Tilt a row of Launchers along the top toward a side opening so stagnant pixels get pushed away without touching anything still in free fall.

Checkpoint: the surface stays clear even during a heavy delivery.

When the Press Jams

The Press stops paying out in a handful of predictable ways; here is what each one looks like and how to undo it.

Short drop

Material keeps landing on the surface

Anything that does not fall far enough stays on top of the Press and blocks later deliveries. Raise the drop point past 25 blocks and clear the backlog once.

Mixed jams

The landing zone is collecting wrong material

Keep the drop dedicated to Burnt Residue. Mixed drops become mixed jams, so separate any other production line before it reaches the shaft.

Stuck pile

The surface has backed up anyway

Point an angled Launcher at the pile to sweep it into a side opening. That clears the face without disturbing drops still in the air above it.

Placement notes

Where the Press fits in a base

  • Needs vertical room: reserve a shaft at least 25 blocks deep
  • Blocks liquid and gas, so it can double as a wall in a sealed system
  • Keep the landing zone dedicated; mixed drops become mixed jams
Comparison

Press vs Shaker

  • Press input is Burnt Residue; Shaker input is Wet Sand
  • Press ignores drops that are too short; Shaker processes whatever lands
  • Press needs external clearing; Shaker sheds Residue on its own
  • Press mints Seeds; Shaker only mints Gold
