SandTogether on Steam Workshop

Why the Milestone Matters

First-week numbers set the ceiling for how much guides, wiki coverage, and modding activity a game will sustain during Early Access.

Demand signal

A solo project found a large audience fast

Sandustry launched into Early Access on August 13, 2026 on Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store, plus PC Game Pass from day one. Passing 100,000 paid copies in one week, on top of Game Pass players, means the guide demand for basics like the first gold loop and water circulation will stay high for months.

Quality signal

Reviews are strong despite launch friction

The game holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating across more than 2,000 reviews, even though the launch build shipped with crashes that the developer has been patching quickly. Retention, not just sales, is what keeps a wiki useful.

Response speed

Three patches in the first week

v0.5.3, v0.5.4, and v0.5.5 arrived on August 14, 16, and 19. If you hit a bug, check the v0.5.5 notes before troubleshooting, because many early issues are already fixed.

SandTogether: Multiplayer Arrives Early

Sandustry is single-player only in the official build, but an early co-op mod named SandTogether is already on the Steam Workshop.

What it is

A community co-op mod, not an official mode

SandTogether adds multiplayer to Sandustry before the developer has published a proper modding API. Treat it as an experiment: expect rough edges, and do not rely on it for long-term saves.

How to try it

You must opt into the unstable mods branch

Per the official update notes, subscribed mods only load on the separate “mods” Steam branch. The developer warns that this branch is unstable and not up to date with the live build, so stay on the default branch if you only want to play vanilla.

Where to follow

Official modding support is still coming

The developer is building the game with modding in mind, from small visual changes to custom maps, buildings, and production chains. Watch the mods hub for when stable support lands.
